our mission
The Purusha Project helps teenage women develop tools to approach life with resilience, self-confidence and a positive self-image through a proven curriculum of yoga and creative arts.
Yoga and creative arts have been shown to have beneficial effects fighting depression, managing anger, and improving body image.
Our vision
Every girl who participates in The Purusha Project will have a better opportunity to lead a more balanced and healthy life. They will acquire skills that cultivate a strong self-concept and vision of their potential. Each girl will develop the ability to make better choices, and become more accountable for her actions.
our approach
Experienced yoga and art educators mentor the girls during weekly 2-hour sessions. Each component of the class offers the girls time to practice choosing healthy behaviors and appropriate actions. The girls develop techniques to handle stress, conflict, and negative thinking through the practice of yoga. Each written and visual art experience has a focused theme such a non-violence, gratitude, and positive body image. The girls are given time to reflect during journaling and group discussions. Each girl is encouraged to share her discoveries, thoughts, and feelings during the session. Girls often leave with assignments that encourage continued practice of the life skills explored during the session.
.
Our dignity
